Mental Health First Aid
The Care Project is passionate about delivering Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training in the community. MHFA is an internationally recognised, evidence-based training program. The program equips individuals with the knowledge and confidence to recognise, respond to, and support someone experiencing a mental health challenge or crisis.
Through a practical, evidence-based action plan, course participants learn how to approach someone they are concerned about and start a conversation about those concerns. They also gain the skills to provide initial support and information, and to encourage the person to seek professional help or access other appropriate support.
The Care Project delivers MHFA courses for teens, young people and adults in a wide array of settings in the community such as schools, workplaces and other organisations. We also tailor our courses for priority population groups such as those with disability and people from diverse cultural and faith backgrounds.
MHFA course learning outcomes:
- Recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems
- Apply an evidence-based action plan to initiate a mental health first conversation
- Identify a range of crisis situations and provide initial support
- Understand the prevalence and impact of mental illness, risk factors and support available
- Utilise self-care practices as a Mental Health First Aider
This course is recognised by Suicide Prevention Australia as a safe, high-quality, and effective suicide prevention program.
